# Repeater

The `Repeater` group creates multiple copies of the stroke. Use it for motion trails, echoes, offset duplicates, stepped 3D strokes, fading repeats, or color-shifted copies.

{% hint style="info" %}
`Total Copies` includes the original stroke. A value of 3 means the original plus 2 repeated copies.
{% endhint %}

## Controls

<details>

Enable Repeater

#### Enable Repeater

`Enable Repeater` turns repeated copies on or off.

When it is unchecked, the other `Repeater` controls are disabled and the stroke renders normally.

</details>

<details>

Total Copies

#### Total Copies

`Total Copies` sets the total number of strokes produced by the repeater, including the original.

The original stroke is copy 0. Repeated copies are copy 1, copy 2, and so on. Per-copy style and transform changes are cumulative, so later copies receive stronger changes than earlier copies.

The original draws on top of repeated copies by default, which makes motion trails sit behind the current stroke.

</details>

<details>

Path Offset Interval (sec)

#### Path Offset Interval

`Path Offset Interval` controls when each repeated copy samples its source path. If your source path is static, `Path Offset Interval` has no effect.

| Value          | Result                            |
| -------------- | --------------------------------- |
| Negative value | Later copies sample earlier times |
| `0` | All copies use the current path |
| Positive value | Later copies sample future times |

Use negative values for trails that follow animation. Use positive values for lead-in echoes. Use `0` when you want repeated style or transform copies without time-offset path sampling.

The interval is measured in seconds, so it behaves consistently if you change the composition framerate.

</details>

<details>

Width %

#### Width %

`Width %` multiplies stroke width for each repeated copy.

A value below 100% makes each later copy thinner. A value above 100% makes each later copy thicker. The change compounds by copy number, so 80% produces 80%, 64%, 51.2%, and so on.

This modifies the base stroke width before `Width Control Mode` maps its width curve over the path.

</details>

<details>

Width +/-

#### Width +/-

`Width +/-` adds or subtracts width for each repeated copy.

Positive values make later copies wider. Negative values make later copies narrower. The offset is cumulative, so copy 3 receives 3 times the value.

Width is clamped at zero, so extreme negative values can make later copies disappear.

</details>

<details>

Opacity %

#### Opacity %

`Opacity %` multiplies opacity for each repeated copy.

A value below 100% creates a fading trail. For example, 90% gives copy 1 90% opacity, copy 2 81%, copy 3 72.9%, and so on.

This stacks with `Master Opacity` and gradient stop opacity. The original stroke keeps the normal opacity from the `Color & Opacity` group.

</details>

<details>

Hue Shift

#### Hue Shift

`Hue Shift` rotates the color of each repeated copy around the hue wheel.

The shift is cumulative by copy number. A value of 20 degrees gives copy 1 a 20 degree shift, copy 2 a 40 degree shift, copy 3 a 60 degree shift, and so on.

This affects both `Solid` and `Gradient` color modes.

</details>

<details>

Gradient Cycle

#### Gradient Cycle

`Gradient Cycle` offsets the gradient for each repeated copy.

Use it to make repeated copies pick up different parts of the same gradient, which is useful for color trails, chasing lights, and rainbow echoes.

`Gradient Cycle` only changes the result when `Color Mode` is set to `Gradient`.

</details>

<details>

Transform

#### Transform

The `Transform` sub-group offsets, rotates, and scales repeated copies.

Parameter

Result

Position X
,
Position Y

Moves each copy in 2D screen space

Position Z

Moves each copy in depth for
Sphere (3D)

Rotation X
,
Rotation Y
,
Rotation Z

Rotates each copy around the transform origin

Scale X
,
Scale Y
,
Scale Z

Scales each copy around the transform origin

Origin X
,
Origin Y
,
Origin Z

Sets the transform origin where available

Transform values are cumulative. If `Position X` is 20, copy 1 moves 20 pixels, copy 2 moves 40 pixels, copy 3 moves 60 pixels, and so on. Scale compounds by percentage, so 90% gets progressively smaller across copies.

When `Use Light Motion Paths` is off, `Origin X` and `Origin Y` are disabled and Thicc Pro uses the composition center for those axes. `Origin Z` remains available. For light motion paths, all three origin controls are available because light paths live in world space.

</details>

## Interactions

<details>

Draw Order

Repeated copies are inserted behind the original stroke. This makes the current stroke draw on top of its trail.

</details>

<details>

Trim Paths

`Trim Paths` is applied after repeater copies are collected, so repeated copies are trimmed too.

With `Trim Multiple Paths` set to `Simultaneously`, `Trim Time Offset (sec)` staggers across all paths, including repeater copies. Increasing `Total Copies` can therefore change the apparent trim timing across the full set of paths.

</details>

<details>

Dashes

Dashes are applied after repeater copies are collected, so repeated copies are dashed too.

If `Width Scope` or `Gradient Scope` is set to `Individual Dashes`, each dash segment receives its own width curve or gradient inside every copy.

</details>

<details>

Width Scope and Gradient Scope

Scope modes treat repeated copies as additional paths.

Scope

Repeater behavior

Multiple Paths

Width or color spans all repeated paths plus the original

Individual Paths

Width or color restarts on each copied path

Individual Trims

Width or color restarts on each trim segment

Individual Dashes

Width or color restarts on each dash segment

</details>

<details>

Path Sources

`Path Offset Interval (sec)` resamples the active path source at each copy's time. This works with masks, shape paths, text outlines, and light motion paths.

Animated text or shape content can produce a different number of paths at different time offsets. Thicc Pro handles this naturally; copies do not need to contain the same path count as the original.

When `Pen Shape` is `Sphere (3D)` and a `Parent Layer` is used, the parent layer transform is sampled per copy at the same time offset as that copy's path.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://plugin-everything.gitbook.io/plugin-everything-docs/controls/repeater.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
